Lana Del Reys Met Gala Makeup: Everything the Singer Wore to Perfect Her Alexander McQueen

Lana Del Rey didn’t have to bestride a motorcycle like she did at her headlining Coachella performances to make a grand statement on the Met Gala steps on Monday night.
The singer arrived at the star-studded carpet on Monday night wearing a veiled cream Alexander McQueen sheath gown by Seán McGirr. The corseted dress, an haute couture version of the fit-and-flare silhouette from the label’s spring/summer line, was adorned with hand-embroidered vines that climbed up from her skirt, adorned with a crystal-embellished red rose corsage.

The most showstopping aspect of her ensemble, however, was her sculptural headpiece, whose thorns gave shape to a sheer veil that covered her upper body and face. The look was a nod to the British fashion house’s “crown of thorns” headpiece from the fall/winter 1996 collection of then-creative director Shaun Leane.

Thankfully, the veil didn’t obstruct Del Rey’s high-glam makeup. For her base, makeup artist Etienne Ortega used Charlotte Tilbury skincare and makeup, including the brand’s Beautiful Skin Foundation and Beauty Light Want highlighter in Spotlight. For her smokey eyes, he used Super Nudes Easy Eye palette, Pillow Talk Push-Up Lashes mascara and Exagger-Eyes Liner Duo.

The look wouldn’t have been complete without the bold, burnt-red lips. Ortega used his own brand for these finishing touches, prepping her lips with the Blu Nectar Lip Oil and then going in with Soft Contour Lip Liner in Cinnamon Girl (fitting!) and Agave Glow Color Stick in Petals.
